What Can You Expect as a Counselor? |
| Spending a summer as a camp counselor is unlike any other experience or job you will ever have. Where else can you work and play really hard, get adult experience while reliving your youth, and have a lot of fun while getting really tired?! Here's what you can expect during your time with us: |
| |
- To gain unbelievable experiences working with children.
- To improve your leadership, people and organization skills; to learn how to be a better communicator with children, peers and parents.
- To work as a team with 80+ other staff all dedicated to improving the lives of each camper.
- To live and be with children 24-7 and not have a lot of time off.
- To miss "your girls" during your time off and wonder what they are doing.
- To make friends of all ages and from all over the world.
- To go to bed at night humming Taps or other camp songs.
- To miss home.
- To be sad when the summer is over.
- To well-up with fond memories every time you see purple, orange and green together.
- To work hard, I mean really hard.
- To get really tired at times and still be expected to teach at your best.
- To see a scorpion or centipede, maybe even in your cabin.
- To have to be the hero who kills the scorpion or centipede for the screaming girls in your cabin.
- To look forward to having time to do your laundry.
- To eat way too many delicious meals and desserts...think brownie fudge pie, caramel squares, bananas foster...yum! yum!
- To spend your off period joining another class and learning a new skill.
- To have some campers who always make you smile and some that at times make you want to pull your hair out.
- To feel proud when "your" camper accomplishes something new, especially when it is something you taught her.
- To feel excited, scared, nervous and happy all at the same time.
- To make a lasting impression on several children's lives.
- To love your summer job and want to come back next year!
